The Port Authority of Bilbao announced that the first bunkering service providing liquefied natural gas to a vessel for fuel was realized in Bilbao Port, Spain.
This first operation was result of the collaboration between the Basque Energy Entity (EVE), Bahía Bizkaia Gas (BBG) and the Port Authority of Bilbao. According to the port, the operation was carried out from a tanker with LNG using truck to ship bunkering, the most versatile technique, because there is no need for specific in-port facilities. Flexible hoses are the only necessary equipment to connect the ship with the tanker, which incorporates all the pumping system.
The first vessel to be bunkered in this way was the Ireland, 110 metres long and whose agency is Agencia Maritima Artiach Zuazaga, which belongs to a regular line between Bilbao and the United Kingdom and Ireland.
