As part of strengthening the European Union’s strategy for enhancing intermodal transport, SPC Greece, upon assuming the Presidency of the European Shortsea Network (ESN), proceeded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hellenic Logistics Association (EEL).
The European objective of increasing multimodal transport forms part of the broader effort to decarbonize Europe and requires cooperation among all sectors of the transport network. Priority is being given to identifying solutions that will make intermodal transport the primary choice for cargo owners.
Recognizing the importance of synergies in creating a holistic trans-European network integrating logistics, railways, ships, trucks, and ports, SPC Greece is working closely with EEL. Through the signing of the MoU, the two organizations commit to the exchange of data and views, as well as the promotion of joint initiatives that will contribute to the sustainable development of transport in Europe.
The 2nd Vice President of EENMA, Ms. Elpi Petraki, representing SPC Greece, stated:
“The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between SPC Greece and the Hellenic Logistics Association marks an important step toward strengthening intermodal transport, while at the same time enhancing cooperation among stakeholders across the network. Multimodal transport is the key to sustainable development, and today’s initiative demonstrates our commitment to contributing to the decarbonization and efficiency of the European transport system.”
The Vice President of Operations of the Hellenic Logistics Association, Mr. Konstantinos Papageorgiou, noted:
“Our cooperation with SPC Greece strengthens our shared efforts to promote sustainable and innovative solutions in intermodal transport. EEL recognizes the potential of multimodal transport as a driver of growth and environmental responsibility. We are confident that this partnership will deliver significant benefits for businesses, the economy, and the environment.”
This strategy forms part of the broader action framework of the European Shortsea Network (ESN) and the European Union for transport sustainability and efficiency, contributing to a greener future for Europe.
