Maritime Studies Scholarship Programme

The aim of the programme is to financially support students with limited economic resources who wish to pursue maritime studies, while at the same time rewarding academic excellence. 

The Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association (HSSA) announces the 11th Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2025–2026, which includes the following scholarships. 

The deadline for submitting applications is 9 January 2026. All supporting documents must be sent by post to the HSSA Secretariat. 

Selection Criteria

Applications are evaluated by the Scholarship Evaluation Committee, taking into consideration the following criteria:

  • The academic performance of the candidates, in combination with the ranking and academic standing of the university from which they graduated.
  • Whether the candidate already holds another equivalent degree, with priority given to applicants who do not possess another equivalent academic qualification.
  • Knowledge of foreign languages, as demonstrated by the relevant certificates held by the candidates.
  • The financial situation of the candidates.
  • The overall assessment of the candidate’s profile, based on the information provided in the application as well as a personal interview, where applicable.

Scholarships Offered by the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association

Annual scholarship of €5,000, established in memory of the late Spyros Alexandratos, President of the Association, awarded for domestic postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies for the academic year 2026–2027.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit:

  • Application form
  • Acceptance letter from the postgraduate programme host institution
  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign university)
  • Copy of the applicant’s tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2025
  • Copy of the family tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2025
  • Copy of the degree certificate indicating the grade and graduation year
  • Certificate of family status
  • Any other document proving social criteria (e.g., large family status, illness, etc.)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Declaration confirming that the applicant has not received any scholarship or grant from another organization, public or private, for the academic year 2026–2027.

A postgraduate scholarship offered by SEAVEN TANKER & DRY MANAGEMENT covering the full tuition fees of €7,600 for the Full-Time Programme of the MSc in International Shipping, Finance and Management (ISFM) at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) for the academic year 2026–2027.

Prerequisites / Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, an applicant must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Formal acceptance letter from the MSc in ISFM at AUEB
  • Non-receipt of other funding (non-cumulative condition) or exemption from tuition fees from other sources
  • Enrolment restricted exclusively to students of the full-time cohort
  • Greek citizenship

Selection Criteria

The Academic Performance and Socioeconomic Criteria are as follows:

A. Academic Performance:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree grade of 7.5/10

B. Socioeconomic Criteria (handled in strict accordance with GDPR (EU) 2016/679 and Greek Law 4624/2019):

  • Family status: Married / Single, Number of Children, other family conditions
  • Family and/or Personal income

Annual postgraduate scholarship of €5,000, offered by Load Line Marine SA, for domestic postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies for the academic year 2026–2027.

Annual postgraduate scholarship of €5,000, awarded for domestic postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies for the academic year 2026–2027 by EENMA (Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association), in memory of Georgios Vozikis, long-serving Director of the Association.

Postgraduate scholarship of €5,000, offered by OCEANKING Technical & Trading SA, for postgraduate studies in the MSc programme “Ship Performance Analysis and Management” at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) for the academic year 2027–2028.

  • Acceptance letter from the MSc programme host institution
  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign higher education institution)
  • Copy of the applicant’s tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2025
  • Copy of the family tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2025
  • Copy of the degree certificate indicating the graduation grade and year of award
  • Certificate of family status

Scholarships offered by the American classification society ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), totaling $15,000, awarded to top-performing graduates of the academic year 2025–2026 from the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programmes of the Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport at the University of the Aegean, based on academic achievement.

Eligibility Criteria

  • The graduate must not have received a scholarship from any other source.

An annual scholarship of €1,500, established in memory of Eydoxia Gerasimou, mother of EENMA’s Legal Counsel, Mr. N. Gerasimou, at the School of Law of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). The scholarship will be awarded to the top-ranking student of the Master’s Programme in Commercial Law, specializing in MARITIME LAW, for the academic year 2025–2026.

Eligible candidates are students currently at the stage of submitting their master’s thesis, which will be evaluated by the University by January 20, 2027.

To apply, candidates must contact the Coordinating Committee of the aforementioned postgraduate programme and submit the following required documents by December 30, 2026:

  • Certificate of enrollment/attendance in the specified Master’s Programme
  • Official transcript of records for completed courses (excluding the thesis grade, which must be submitted once defended)
  • Short Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Statutory declaration confirming non-receipt of an excellence scholarship from any other source

Two one-year scholarships for studies at the Tsakos Merchant Marine Academy (T.E.E.N.S.) in Chios for the academic year 2027–2028, offered by the “Maria Tsakos” Public Benefit Foundation.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the minimum admission requirements of the T.E.E.N.S. Academy.

Two scholarships for the postgraduate programmes “MSc in Shipping Business” and “MSc Marine Engineering Management” offered by BCA College Athens.

Eligibility Prerequisites

Candidates may apply provided they hold at least one of the following qualifications:

  • A 2nd Class Honours degree from a British University, or
  • An undergraduate degree with a minimum grade of 7.0/10 from a Greek University (AEI), or
  • An undergraduate degree with a minimum grade of 7.5/10 from a Technological Educational Institute (TEI), or
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an American University with a GPA of 2.75 or higher, or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field of study (Shipping, Business, Economics)
  • Merchant Marine Bridge or Engine Officers

  • Proof of English language proficiency certified by one of the following:
  • IELTS: 6.5 or above (minimum 6.0 in each section)
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Grade C1 or above
  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE): Grade C or above
  • Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE): Grade B or above
  • Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE): Pass or above
  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): 53 overall (minimum 51 in each section)
  • BCA IELTS Placement Test: 6.5 or above (minimum 6.0 in each section)
  • Tuition Contribution

The scholarship recipient is required to contribute £1,200 for the Full-Time (FT) programme or £1,400 for the Part-Time (PT) programme.

Scholarship for the Postgraduate Programme “MSc International Maritime Business” offered by Metropolitan College.

Eligibility Prerequisites

Candidates may apply for the programme provided they meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies or a related field (grade average > 6/10 or 2:2)
  • English Language Proficiency Certificate (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent)
  • At least 2 years of relevant professional experience

  • Copy of degree certificate from a University / TEI or other equivalent private higher education institution
  • Copy of applicant’s tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2025
  • Copy of family tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2025
  • Certificate of family status
  • Any document demonstrating social criteria (e.g., large family status, illness, etc.)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

The selected scholarship recipient will be required to pay €1,800, which corresponds to the partner university’s royalties.

Scholarship for specialized training seminars at RINA Academy, offered by RINA HELLAS.
