Maritime Studies Scholarship Programme

The aim of the programme is to financially support students with limited economic resources who wish to pursue maritime studies, while at the same time rewarding academic excellence. 

The Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association (HSSA) announces the 11th Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2025–2026, which includes the following scholarships. 

The deadline for submitting applications is 9 January 2026. All supporting documents must be sent by post to the HSSA Secretariat. 

Selection Criteria

Applications are evaluated by the Scholarship Evaluation Committee, taking into consideration the following criteria:

Scholarships Offered by the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association

Annual scholarship of €5,000, established in memory of Spyros Alexandratos, former President of the Association. It is awarded for postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies in Greece for the academic year 2025–2026. 

Required Documents. Applicants must submit: 

  • Application form 
  • Acceptance letter from the postgraduate programme 
  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign university) 
  • Copy of the applicant’s tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2024 
  • Copy of the family tax clearance statement for fiscal year 2024 
  • Copy of the degree certificate indicating grade and year of graduation 
  • Certificate of family status 
  • Any document demonstrating social criteria (e.g. large family status, illness, etc.) 
  • Curriculum Vitae 
  • Declaration confirming that the applicant has not received any scholarship or grant from another organisation, public or private, for the academic year 2025–2026. 

An annual postgraduate scholarship of €5,000 is offered by Bureau Veritas for postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies in Greece for the academic year 2025–2026.

  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign university) 
  • Copy of the applicant’s tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024

  • Copy of the degree certificate stating the grade and year of completion 
  • Certificate of family status 
  • Any additional document proving social criteria (e.g. large family status, medical conditions, etc.) 
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Additional Condition:

  • Applicants must not have received any scholarship or financial support from another public or private institution for the academic year 2025–2026. 

An annual postgraduate scholarship of €5,000 is awarded by Load Line Marine SA for postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies in Greece for the academic year 2025–2026.

  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign university)

An annual postgraduate scholarship of €5,000 is offered by SPANOPOULOS GROUP to a member of the Hellenic Coast Guard (H.C.G.) for postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies in Greece for the academic year 2025–2026.

  • Letter of acceptance from the postgraduate program (Master’s program provider)
  • Certificate of employment with the Hellenic Coast Guard (H.C.G.)
  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign university)
  • Copy of the applicant’s tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024
  • Copy of the degree certificate stating the grade and year of completion
  • Certificate of family status
  • Any additional document proving social criteria (e.g. large family status, medical conditions, etc.)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)

Additional Condition

An annual postgraduate scholarship of €5,000 is offered by the Hellenic Short Sea Shipowners Association (EENMA), in memory of its long-serving Director, Georgios Vozikis, for postgraduate studies in Maritime Studies in Greece for the academic year 2025–2026.

  • Minimum undergraduate degree grade of 7/10 (or equivalent from a foreign university)
  • Copy of the applicant’s tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024

  • Copy of the degree certificate stating the grade and year of completion
  • Certificate of family status
  • Any additional document proving social criteria (e.g. large family status, medical conditions, etc.)

Additional Condition 

  • Applicants must not have received any scholarship or financial support from another public or private institution for the academic year 2025–2026. 

Scholarships are offered to the top-ranking graduates of the academic year 2024–2025 from the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programs of the Department of Shipping and Business Services at the University of the Aegean, based on their academic performance. 

Eligibility Criteria 

To be awarded the scholarship, the graduate must not have received a scholarship from any other source.

Scholarship for Specialized Training Seminars at RINA Academy.
A scholarship is offered by RINA Hellas for participation in specialized training seminars at RINA Academy. 

Required Documents

  • Copy of the applicant’s tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024
  • Copy of the family tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024
  • Copy of the degree certificate stating the grade and year of completion
  • Certificate of family status
  • Any additional document proving social criteria (e.g. large family status, medical conditions, etc.)
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV) 

An annual scholarship of €1,500 is awarded in memory of Evdokia Gerasimou, mother of the Legal Advisor of the Hellenic Short Sea Shipowners Association (HSSA), Mr. N. Gerasimou. The scholarship is offered within the Law School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. 

It will be awarded to the top-ranking student of the Postgraduate Program in Commercial Law, specializing in Maritime Law, for the academic year 2024–2025. 

Eligible Candidates 

Eligible candidates are students currently at the stage of submitting their Master’s thesis, which will be evaluated by the University by January 20, 2026. 

Application Procedure & Deadline 

Candidates must apply through the coordinating committee of the aforementioned postgraduate program and submit the following supporting documents by December 30, 2025: 

Required Documents 

  • Certificate of enrollment/attendance in the specific postgraduate program
  • Official transcript of grades for completed courses (excluding the Master’s thesis grade, which must be submitted after the thesis defense)
  • Short Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Solemn declaration stating that the applicant has not received a merit-based scholarship from another source 

Two Scholarships for the Postgraduate Programs “MSc in Shipping Business” and “MSc Marine Engineering Management” offered by BCA Athens Business College 

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants may apply if they meet one of the following qualifications: 

  • A 2nd class honours degree from a UK University, or
  • A university degree (AEI) with a minimum grade of 7.0, or
  • A degree from a Technological Educational Institute (TEI) with a minimum grade of 7.5, or
  • A degree from an American University with a minimum GPA of 2.75, or
  • Equivalent qualifications in relevant fields (shipping, business, economics)
  • Deck and engine officers of the Merchant Navy are also eligible

  • Copy of the applicant’s tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024
  • Copy of the family tax assessment notice for the fiscal year 2024

English Language Requirements 

Proof of English language proficiency must be provided through one of the following: 

  • IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 or higher, with at least 6.0 in each component
  • Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): Grade C1 or higher
  • Cambridge Advanced Certificate in English (CAE): Grade C or higher
  • Cambridge First Certificate in English (FCE): Grade B or higher
  • Examination for the Certificate of Proficiency in English (ECPE): Pass or higher
  • Pearson Academic (PTE): Score of 53, with at least 51 in each component
  • BCA IELTS Placement Test: Overall score of 6.5 or higher, with at least 6.0 in each component

Financial Contribution 

The scholarship recipient will be required to pay: 

£1,200 for the full-time (FT) program, or 
£1,400 for the part-time (PT) program

Eligibility Criteria 

Applicants may apply to the program provided they meet one of the following qualifications: 

  • A degree in Shipping or a related field (minimum average grade of >6.0 or 2.2), or
  • Proof of English language proficiency (IELTS 6.5 or equivalent), or
  • At least 2 years of professional experience
